2011 Ellis County Equine Association Presents Awards 

There were many happy faces and shiny cowboy boots on October 15, as competitors in the Ellis County Equine Association gathered for their year-end banquet at Lakeview Camp and Conference Center in Waxahachie to receive a menagerie of custom made awards in honor of their hard work to win championships throughout the 2011 ECEA horse show season.

 “We’ve had a great show season with increasing numbers in class size, membership level and youth participation,” announced ECEA President Jimmy Ballew at the beginning of the ceremony. “Thanks so much to all of the hard work from all of our officers and volunteers and especially our sponsors.” 

Buckles were awarded to the individuals racking up the most points over five shows in halter, English, Western, reining, yearling performance, and walk and whoa categories. Other awards included trophy custom leather bridles, mini-buckle necklaces, embroidered bridle bags, embroidered saddle covers, trophies and plaques. 

In addition to horse show awards, ECEA honored several special members or families for their dedication and helpfulness to the club. The Van Huss Family consisting of Roy, Vicky, Dakotah and Makenna of Waxahachie won the Billie Wesson Most Active New Member Award. The Allan Donnan of Wills Point won the Randy McMullan Spirit Award for his dedication to ECEA throughout the year and volunteering as an on-site paramedic during the horse shows.

Alyssa Ballew of Midlothian won the Nancy Jessup Sportsmanship Buckle. This is a very special award honoring a youth who showed a great attitude in and out of the show ring throughout the year and is voted on only by the youth membership.

2010 Ellis County Equine Association Awards Banquet

 

There were many happy faces and shiny cowboy boots on October 2, as competitors in the Ellis County Equine Association gathered for their year-end banquet at Lakeview Camp and Conference Center in Waxahachie to receive a menagerie of custom made awards in honor of their hard work to win championships throughout the 2010 ECEA horse show season.

“We’ve had a great show season despite the down economy!” announced ECEA President Julie Hinz at the beginning of the ceremony. “Thanks so much to all of the hard work from all of our officers and volunteers and especially our sponsors.”

Buckles were awarded to the individuals racking up the most points over five shows in halter, English, Western, reining, yearling performance, and walk and whoa categories. Other awards included trophy leather saddle pads, trophy halters, hay bags, spur straps, Painted Ponies, and embroidered horse sheets.

In addition to horse show awards, ECEA honored several special members or families for their dedication and helpfulness to the club. The Hammock Family consisting of Jerry, Mitsy, Emily and Audry of Waxahachie won the Billie Wesson Most Active New Member Award. The families of Jennifer and Glenn Alexander of Midlothian and Mary and Chesley Hinds of Waxhachie both won the Randy McMullan Spirit Award for their dedication to ECEA throughout the year. The Mighty Special Award, sponsored by the Flying Dollar Ranch in honor of one of their lesson horses, was awarded to Elizabeth Terry of Waxahachie for doing many “special” things for many people of ECEA throughout the year.

2008 Ellis County Equine Association Honors Its Winners

 

Buckles were shining and the smell of new saddles was in the air recently as Ellis County Equine Association (ECEA) awarded its year-end winners at the club’s annual awards banquet at the Flying Dollar Ranch in Italy.

 

After a BBQ dinner, the presentations kicked off with Tracey and John Friedmann of Waxahachie winning the Randy McMullan Spirit Award.  Julie Hinz of Italy and Becky Hansen of Crandall were then awarded the Charlie Huff Hall of Fame Award, which is given to long time ECEA members dedicated to the club. And the Nancy Jessup Youth Sportsmanship Award, which is voted on by the youth members, was awarded to Rebecca Stimpson of Dallas.

 

ECEA awarded saddles to the top all-around competitors in four age groups. The riders had to show their horses in halter, western and English events in at least three of five shows to earn enough points to clinch the saddle. Shows were held at the Navarro County Exposition Center in Corsicana April through August.

 

Marley McElwee of Flower Mound captured the 9 & under all-around championship with her Paint horse Hot Shot Of Crown. Danie Mabry of Winnsboro and her Paint gelding A Dandy Fleet won the 10-12 championship. Brittany Banks of Covington and  her Palomino Detailed In Gold nabbed the 13 -18 division. Vicky Taylor and her Quarter Horse mare Hand Maid By Cool took home the adult saddle for the second consecutive year.

 

Buckles were presented to the winners of high point English and western divisions in the four age groups as well as yearling performance, many halter divisions, and reigning. All children who participated in four ECEA activities throughout the year received participation trophies and lead line riders who qualified in three shows won Painted Pony collectable statues.

 

In addition to hosting the saddle series, ECEA hosts free equestrian clinics, trail rides, and general membership meetings throughout the year. Anyone interested in joining the club, may attend a general membership meeting, which are held the third Thursday of every month at the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce at 7:30 p.m. Or, look on the web at www.elliscountyequine.org, or call Julie Hinz at 972-483-7774 for more information. The 2009 horse show dates are scheduled for April 4, May 2, June 6 and July 11.

 

2007 Ellis County Equine Association Honors Its Winners

Ellis County Equine Association (ECEA) awarded four saddles, a host of buckles, trophy bracelets, trophies and other awards to winning local equestrians at the club's annual year-end awards banquet on October 14 at Lakeview Camp and Conference Center in Waxahachie.

Club president Sandy Neal of Italy, kicked off the evening by presenting special awards. The Billie Wesson Most Active New Member Award was presented to John and Tracey Friedmann of Maypearl. The Randy McMullan Spirit Award was given to Becky Hansen of Crandall. The Charlie Huff Hall of Fame Award, which is given to long time ECEA members, was presented to Missy DeVall of Red Oak. And the Nancy Jessup Youth Sportsmanship Award, which is voted on by the youth members, was awarded to Sarah Jarvis of Gilmer.

Prior to awarding the horse show prizes, Neal thanked the club members for a successful season.
"We had a wonderfull, successful show season in 2007. The judges were all carded with a major breed associations and did a great job judging the shows. Our facilities at the Navarro County Exposition Center were always ready and well cared for. And most importantly, you, our participants, were competitive and ready to volunteer your time to help keep this club organized and the shows running smoothly. ECEA's board of directors greatly appreciate the effort of the individual club members," said Neal.

Hannah Chaney of Quitman captured the 9 & under horse show championship with her horse Docs Divis Leo. Danie Mabry of Winnsboro and her Paint gelding Titans Painted Sonny won the 10-12 championship. Joshua Jarvis of Gilmer and his palomino mare Vested Gold Entry nabbed the 13 -18 division championship for the second consecutive year. Vicky Taylor and her Quarter Horse mare Hand Maid By Cool took home the adult saddle.
Awards were also given in individual halter division, top five high point western, top five high point English, green horse, yearling performance, reining, walk and whoa and leadline.

The night concluded with the announcement of the elected 2008 ECEA officers. The newly elected officers are: president Hansen, vice president Julie Hinz of Italy, secretary Friedmann, treasurer Brenda Escamilla of Forreston The board of directors are Lois Smith of Wilmer, Devall , Lou Bell of Midlothian, Donna Weisberg of Palmer, and Alliece Summers of Waxahachie. Outgoing president Neal will also remain on the board.
