PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Hello Soggy Horse Friends,

I’m assuming everyone is swimming through mud (or perhaps crunching through ice or snow) as much as we are here at the Flying Dollar. It hasn’t been a fun, productive 2010 yet, but surely spring will bring sunshine and everything that comes with it!

The 2010 planning meeting went well with limited changes proposed.  These changes will need to be officially presented to the general membership and approved at the February ECEA general membership meeting on Thursday, February 17 at 7:30 p.m. at the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce. Proposed changes include:

  • Green horse will extend to horses 5 years old or younger (used to be 4) and within their first two years of showing riding classes. This will match other associations “junior” rule and correspond better with our “junior” halter classes.
  • Trail class will run concurrently with the show, using a separate judge. We are going to try this at the first show and see how it goes.
  • There will be no year-end “all-around” champion. There will still be Top 5 English and Top 5 western in each age division, as well as a Top 5 green horse.
  • ECEA will continue to award DHP’s at each show in each age division plus green horse.
  • The rule regarding using color class points towards DHP only in the event of another exhibitor showing the same horse in open halter, was clarified (the rule was not changed).
  • In ECEA By-Laws, a proposal has been made to allow two persons living in the same house to hold an ECEA board position at the same time as the other holds an officer position. Two spouses may not be officers. This will help us fill positions on the board of directors in the future.
  • There will be no trail classes at the ECEA Warm-Up show in Waxahachie.

Thank you to all of our new sponsors that have signed up so far. And thanks to the committee chairpersons and members who have volunteered to help with ECEA activities this year. There are many volunteer opportunities available to meet the 6-hour award requirement. Please contact an officer or committee member to see how you can help our club stay successful!

And also remember that all memberships officially expired in December. Please go to our website at www.elliscountyequine.org and download a new application if you have not done this already.

Keep your heels down,

Julie

The youth group will meet for the first time in 2010 to elect officers and plan for a new year at 1 p.m. on March 6 at the Flying Dollar Ranch in Italy. Following the meeting the youth will have an open ride, mounted games, and trail ride. This will be held in conjunction with the Silver Spurs 4-H Club of Ellis County. All horses must have a current negative coggins. All riders will be required to sign a release and wear a protective riding helmet.
