ECEA Youth Show News:  The Youth Show has changed to September 20, 2008 at the Flying Dollar Ranch!

The Ellis County Equine Youth Association is a very active horse club where youth can gather together for some great fun and educational youth activities. ECEYA attends several clinics, trail rides, field trips, and social events throughout the year. A high light of their year, is organizing and promoting their own Youth Schooling Show where they raise money for their year end field trip, participation trophies and sportsmanship buckle.

Each youth who participates in at least four ECEA activities during a calendar year, will receive a participation award at the club's year-end award banquet. Also awarded at the banquet, is the Nancy Jessup Sportsmanship Award belt buckle, for which only the youth vote for whom best epitomizes a good sport during the year's competitions. Some come join in and have some good "horsey" fun in 2008!

The Ellis County Equine Youth Association had a great first meeting of the year on March 29 at the Flying Dollar Ranch. Many new faces became involved and a fun filled year of activities are planned for the adult and youth club alike. The first order of business was to elect officers for 2008. They are: Cali Mikel, President; Tessa Linscheid, Vice President; Courtney Griffith, Secretary; and Cole Mikel, Treasurer.

YOUTH NEWS

The Ellis County Equine Youth Association will host its annual Fundraiser and Fun Show on September 20, 2008, at the Flying Dollar Ranch in Italy, Texas. For a variety of reasons, it was bumped to September and will no longer be scheduled for August 9. Please continue to make plans to attend. The show will begin at 9 a.m. and include halter, western, yearling, English and speed events. The show is limited to youth ages 18 and under. No formal show clothes are required. It's a great place to practice, learn to show, or just have a good time with your horse and other horse kids. A variety of prizes will be given away by drawing throughout the day to all who enter the show.  All the proceeds from the event go to the youth fund which pays for the Jessup sportsmanship buckle, participation trophies and a field trip. The youth continue to seek prizes and sponsorships for drawing. Lonnie Page of Page Quarter Horses will be the judge. Please call Julie Hinz at 972-483-7774 for more information.

Year End Field Trip:

The youth have decided to hold their year-end camping field trip at Quail Hollow Farm in Wills Point. The farm features 10 miles of woodsy trails, fishing ponds, a covered arena, camping sites with electrical and water hookups, and pens and stalls for your horses. The soil is sandy and trails are fairly easy so shoes on your horses are not required for this ride. We will be spending two nights and going Columbus Day weekend October 10-12/13. The state parks booked up really fast on us. What we need to get an idea of is how many families and number of horses are going so ECEA can make the deposit. We usually leave Friday after school and return Sunday. However, many kids and parents have Monday, Columbus Day, off or as a Fair Day. So, we could go Saturday through Monday. I just need to know what will work out best for the most number of families. This trip is paid for (camping sites, horse pens, and some meals) by the youth fund and youth families are welcome to attend. To see pictures of the place, you can go to www.quailhollowfarm.com.  If you are interested please e-mail me-Julie Hinz or call 972-483-7774.

Nancy Jessup Sportsmanship Award:

Youth members will be voting on who will receive the 2008 Nancy Jessup Sportsmanship Award at the August show’s registration table. If you are unable to attend the show, you may call or email your vote to Julie at 972-483-7774 or hinzjulie@hotmail.com. Only  youth members are allowed to vote, with only one vote per member. Be thinking of who deserves this buckle. Who is friendly and helpful at all the shows despite if they win or lose? Who keeps a good attitude? Who participates in many ECEA and youth events and activities?

Please stay tuned for the date for the next youth association meeting date and time.
